I’m in My New Digs – Excuse the Mess, But Come On In

What a week this has been.  I have been planning to move to a self-hosted site for a while and this week, I did it.  With a lot of help.

Who knew there was so much work involved in moving a blog to a website?  Many thanks to the incomparable Steena Holmes (www.steenaholmes.com) for making this happen.

And thanks to WordPress who did exactly what they said they’d do, when they said they’d do it. Godaddy.com has a great support team and I’m here. Not everything is finished yet – think of packing boxes still sitting around. But the important things are in place and I’m looking forward to a regular blogging schedule again.

Amazingly, some of you have continued to read some of my older posts and even comment.  I am beyond delighted.

I have had an interesting week. The chain on my toilet broke. When I was married that wasn’t a big deal but as a single woman, I’m here to tell you there are all kinds of models and types of the guts of a toilet. Different colors and different sizes. And when those helpful guys in the hardware stores tell you they’re all a standard size, don’t believe them. After three trips to the hardware store, it’s fixed, as long as I hold the plunger down for an extra second or two.

A couple of days ago I decided to water my lawn. I rarely do that. But it’s been unusually hot for the last six weeks (hot for Calgary, at least) so I caved. But I went to bed and left it running. In the morning, my front lawn was almost a swamp and the excess was running into the sewer.  Yay Louise

Then last night, the timer on my dryer decided it was tired. Of course it did that after I set it to dry a load of clothes at midnight – assuming it would run for an hour and shut off while I slept.  No such luck. So now I have to pay mucho attention to the darned thing.

And just to keep me on my toes, I put Family Ties up for free for five days on Kindle Select. Other people may deal with this by ignoring the numbers, but not me. I am regularly checking in. I am totally grateful for the support this book received. It peaked at Number 2 on the Free Kindle List as well as the Contemporary Romance List. Awesome and wonderful.

So welcome to my new home. It’s still a bit of a mess but I’ll be tidying up as I go along.

By the way, I got some interesting feedback from you about my posts on burnout. In particular, many of you mentioned that you appreciated the slightly more personal information in those posts.  Hmmm. I work for the Provincial Health System and I have a private practice as a therapist. So I’ve kept my personal life behind some thick barriers and I will, for the most part, continue to do that. But on the odd occasion, like this one, I will open the drapes to my house, a bit. Hopefully you won’t fall asleep.

It’s good to be back home. I feel like I’ve been camping for the past few weeks.

Take a look at my latest release, highlighted in the sidebar.

Come on in – no housewarming gift required.

  1. Louise, sorry I haven’t commented in a while, when I came to the website, the home page shows blog posts from May and I thought your blog was on hiatus. Dumb moment. Anyway, I clicked over again today and did some checking of the tabs and realized I’d missed so much! Sorry about that. Love the new site–looks fabulous and clean!

Yay Louise! The site looks GREAT! I am so happy for you. I know it was a lot of work, but I promise, you will love self-hosting. GoDaddy is amazing. I’ve had them for a year now and not one problemo. Oh, I did subscribe to your new digs girl.I look forward to future posts in my mail. And listen. I’m a little like you Louise. I have had some people tell me to write about myself. That’s not exactly my comfort zone, you know what I mean? So just keep doing what you’re doing. If in the future, you are in need of a new toilet, may I suggest a Toto toilet. My hubby is a contractor and those babies really do the job. They are worth every penny. Just sayin’. Take care Louise and congratulations! :0

I like hearing everyone’s stories about their moves as I have one scheduled for October. You can test the water and get it all figured out for me. 😉 Everything looks wonderful, Louise. And like Jennette said, your RSS feed transfered perfectly. I didn’t have to do anything. 😀

  4. Looks like a successful move, Louise! Your RSS feed transferred seamlessly – I didn’t have to change anything. And wow, what a week you’ve had. I’ve done the thing with the water hose . I’m always afraid of that happening with the dryer!

yay!!! thanks Jennette. I know you do a lot of this for a living, so I’m glad it’s met your standards. it has been a week, but it’s over now.

  5. Yay, Louise! I’m glad you made the move. Things are looking good over here. Can I presume that I’ll still get my notifications of new posts or do I have to sign up again somewhere? I don’t want to lose track of you.

Jansen I am pretty sure you’re going to get notices, especially if you got one for today. I’m going to post a short one tomorrow, so if you don’t get the email, then you’ll have to sign up. but you should be good.

  6. Love the new place 🙂 And congrats on making the move. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. There’s room to grow on your own site. You can paint the walls any color you want, plant flowers where you want, even have pets if you choose 😉

Hey John, good to see you. I’m so glad your sub carried over. Not sure why but it did. I’m on godaddy.com with a wordpress theme, so I think that makes it better. And I paid WordPress to do the move from there to here, which probably also helped. take care

Congratulations, and yes I did get an email about the change also. I am still catching up with previous posts:) All the best

  8. Congratulations on the new digs, how exciting! 🙂 AND – congratulations on being on 2nd place on Amazon’s free listing, how very cool. Good for you.

Ah yes, the joys of being a single female homeowner, been there with all the same joys and challenges!

It seems to come in fits and starts and I was so bad – I have to admit. My ex did all this stuff and did it well, so I never even watched. LOL now I’m paying for my transgressions.

    • Louise Behiel says:

No pink and no bling, but homey, I hope. and no vajayjay or undie discussions from me – I’ll leave that to you younger women

  9. Louise Behiel says:

Thanks Tameri. It’s been hectic, to say the least. I tried to subscribe to my own blog and it said I was already subscribed and it said that I had 80 people subscribed, so I’m not sure what that’s about. but do let me know if there’s a challenge or a problem, so I can get the wonderful Steena to fix it.

did you get an email about this post? perhaps you are still subscribed…Hmmm

    • Hey Louise,

I think I did get an email about the post, but I signed up again anyway just to make sure I keep getting them.

There’s one thing about the self-hosted WP blogs that kind of bugs me ~ two actually ~ when I leave a comment, I get an email notification asking me to confirm my comment. It doesn’t take that much time, but when you have ten blogs that all ask you to confirm, it take enough time to be bothersome.

Also, when you reply to comments, the email I receive doesn’t tell me who you are replying to. So, this one you had my name so I knew it was me, but if you didn’t have Tameri there, I’d have to guess you’re replying to my comment.

      • Louise Behiel says:

Are you on Wp Tameri, or Blogger? I’ll check the settings about the comments. and I’ll make sure to put your name in comments for you. then you don’t have to read the rest of them LOL

  10. Louise! What a crazy week you’ve had. The new place is gorgeous. I’m so excited for the changes you’re making in your life! I’ll sign up for the new blog now, I can’t miss a single post from the ever sweet Louise.
